Students learn to read through a multi-sensory phonics approach that teaches letter sounds, blending, and early word reading. By combining hands-on activities with writing and practice, children gradually build confidence and begin reading simple stories during the year.
🌎 Science & Nature Exploration
Each week centers around a theme from God’s creation—such as the sun, moon, animals, insects, plants, or the human body. Children explore these topics through experiments, crafts, nature observations, and outdoor exploration.
✝️ Bible & Character Formation
Faith is woven throughout every part of the curriculum. Each week introduces a biblical concept and memory phrase, helping students connect God’s Word to their daily lives while developing character traits such as perseverance, gratitude, and kindness.
➕ Math Through Everyday Learning
Math is taught through hands-on experiences and real-life situations, including counting, patterns, measuring, simple addition and subtraction, and understanding numbers. Children practice math through games, building activities, and practical tasks.
🎨 Art, Music & Creativity
Students enjoy regular opportunities to create through painting, drawing, building, and movement. Classical music is introduced through playful listening activities where children might dance, paint, or imagine stories inspired by the music.
📚 Living Books & Read-Alouds
Beautiful children’s literature plays an important role in our classroom. Each week includes engaging read-alouds and stories that connect to the week’s theme and nurture imagination and language development.
Children spend time outside each day observing nature, exploring, and playing. This time allows them to experience God’s creation firsthand, develop curiosity about the world, and build healthy habits of movement and discovery.
Learning That Builds Wonder
At Red River Schoolhouse, learning is not rushed or confined to worksheets. Instead, children explore, ask questions, build, create, and discover—developing both academic skills and a lifelong love of learning.
